Programs & Events
Social Issues Awareness Programs

Throughout the year, VSB sponsors five different Social Issues Awareness Weeks consisting of educational programs such as lectures, workshops, exhibits, documentary discussions, collection drives, experiential learning programs, informational/outreach fairs, and volunteer projects. Social Issues will be addressed from a poverty, healthcare, environmental, and youth & education perspective. This is to address the issue holistically and to demonstrate the interconnectedness of issues. These issues will also be addressed from a local, national, and global perspective to also demonstrated the universal nature of issues.

Students have the opportunity to learn about underlying social issues and hopefully take action by "thinking globally and acting locally."

The mission of VSB is to educate students about social issues, and inspire students to take action through mainly volunteerism. Individual students may adopt activism to address social issues. However, it should be clarified that it is not in VSB's mission to be directly involved with activist efforts.

The Five Social Issues Awareness Weeks include:

These weeks are coordinated by a committee chaired by the corresponding Issues Coordinator (i.e. Healthcare Issues Coordinator will chair the Healthcare Issues Awareness Week). The committee consists of the four issues coordinators, and whoever they choose to invite or recruit.

Faculty, staff, and students are welcome to join any of these committees. Since there are so many events held, VSB is always in need of volunteers to help out.
